Just different fashion aesthetics. One prefers an elegant simplicity while the other loves gaudy embellishments. It’d be like comparing a Christian Dior to an Alexander McQueen - both beautiful and expensive but cannot be compared.
I’m really proud of Apple White. She’s definitely a changed person ever since the first episode. She’s gone from stuck up princess who didn’t believe that everyone couldn’t have a Happily Ever Afters to being supportive of Raven and ALL of the rebels! Even then her reasons for wanting to following her destiny wasn’t entirely selfish (as seen in Thronecoming). She wants her happy ever after, but now she cares much more for others wanting theirs too. Basically her past self (her from the beginning the series) contrasts with her current self.
And since I’m on the topic, I’m kind of proud of Raven too. I think Raven helped her too^^ I think Raven now understands that people have the choice to be royal or rebel, no matter how much she wants people to go off script. Instead of saying “Wouldn’t it be better to go off script then following the same fate over and over again?” to “You should follow your heart’s desire, no matter where it leads”. It may seem the same, but it’s not (at least in my opinion). Before, it seemed like Raven was kind of pushing others to follow their destiny because she wasn’t too keen about the following your destiny thing. It’s like she was persuading people to follow their destiny, but now she has accepted more that it’s everyone choice to do what they want with their lives, no matter if they want to stay true to their tale or rebel (or like what Kitty said, “do what they want”).
Despite Raven’s slight development, this post is mostly about Apple White. I’m just proud of her and I wanted people to hear me out. Apple isn’t a bad character, even from the beginning she wasn’t all that bad like people made her out to be. I know people have the right to their opinions, but Apple really wasn’t that bad nor really selfish, she was just scared for the people that she loved. Like she said, she does want her happily ever after, but it’s clear she cares about everyone else too.

It makes my day to read that. Thank you for this appreciation post for Apple ♥
I quite agree, Apple is truly an adorable and admirable character : Even if Raven has completely destroyed her fabulous destiny, she has always remained optimistic and smiling.
Also over the episodes and movies we realize that Apple is a very smart girl, and very careful, always there to help everyone especially Raven whereas she should hate her for her rebellion against her destiny, but instead she considers her as one of her BFF and understand and accept her opinions. We can see therefore that Apple is not so selfish than the first vision we had of her, she has many qualities, and I think finally she can truly be a great future queen in addition of being one of my favorite characters :’) ♥
Much like I - as an adult - need to be mindful of spaces & entities catering to children as needed male identifying people need to be mindful of their presence in spaces made for female identifying people.
especially for younger children/girls because nobody wants another MLP disaster.
I mean, yeah. Boys being fancy set decoration is their entire point in franchises like these?
Doll lines are something that can be enjoyed by all but are aimed at girls and uplifting them or focusing on their needs & stories. EAH was never about the princes/boys in the first place so simply reaffirming how inessential they are isn’t that big of a deal and if girls can’t be the priority in a girls franchise then where can they?
So yes - EAH is where princess are more powerful than princes because in a world like ours girls need to have a place where they are seen as most important & powerful even if that is only one just imagined.
Well, Ever After High is a franchise especially aimed for girls. But I don’t agree with the “princesses power”.
Firstly : Cedar ? Melody ? Ginger ? Cerise ? Maddie ? Cupid ? They are not princesses ?! I’m so tired of this vision of “princesses everywhere”, as if life of princesses is accessible for every girls. Hell-no ! Not every characters are princesses, and every characters are and can be powerful.
Secondly : Even if EAH is a franchise especially aimed for girls, it’s not a franchise consisting solely of girls, there are also boys, and boys who like EAH, so it’s understandable that some people (including me) complain that they seem more like decorative elements than real interesting characters. Obviously it can be great that at EAH girls seem to be powerful, because in our world where it’s mostly men who are powerful, it can be pleasing to see for a girl that in a virtual world girls seem dominant and powerful. But it’s still sexist ! A vision of equality of genders can be better that a domination of A gender I think…
Thirdly : After the “power” it’s not really my principal interest, it’s especially because EAH is also a fashion franchise that I feel sad for the boys. They can be fashion too, appear in some collections with super designed clothes like the ones of the girls, but they aren’t…why ? It’s too bad for them.. :’/
To finish : Excuse me to give my opinion. I can be consider like wrong or good or nothing, you don’t have to be agree with me, it’s just what I personally think…
Honestly - HONESTLY - the boys will always be secondary to the girls in girls’ media because in a world where women are always placed behind men girls franchises are a place where they are most important. That isn’t to say that the boys aren’t likeable or shouldn’t be well developed but the reinforcement that this line is about girls & women is not a bad thing.
I also want to point out how positive this is for boys as well, since it teaches them to respect the agency & safe spaces for girls and women. A majority of things in the world are centered around men & catering either to them or to include them and Mattel is very softly saying that EAH is not about doing that.
I mean, heaven forbid something center itself around girls & their needs in an effort to empower them and help them grow into self assured, confident women right?
yes…I understand that… but it’s a bit bad that Mattel continues this “sexist vision” like many other franchises. I would have liked to have a more equal vision, it would be innovative and idealistic I think.. obviously more focus on the girls (because it’s a franchise aimed especially for girls and so more dolls of girls than boys, it’s obvious.) but also a bit more interest for the boys can be better too…
*For exemple, I was super excited by the arrival of Alistair Wonderland, because “Alice” is a very fashion theme, I hoped he would have stunning outfits with lots of patterns, lot of colors, some extravagance, so very original clothes which remind his wonderful tale… but actually : no… what a pity… for him and for the other boys… :(
I have my doubts, if this will work and if anybody is going to sign AND i treif my best with my english, but what ever! :) please sign this petition, for all EAH fans!
I know many boys who love fairytales and Ever after high, and I absolutely dislike the new message “where princesses are powerful”, because in my opinion it’s a really really dumb message as at EAH there are not only princesses, so you don’t have to feel like a princess to feel powerful, and also there are not only girls, but also BOYS, and boys are as important than girls, so this is why I sign this petition, I share it, and I encourage everybody to do the same ! (sorry for my horrible english, I wrote this in the moment, not with a translator ^x^)
- Clearly : I’m the only one wonder why only girls have Dragon Games’ outfits ? It’s super ironical for the boys, especially for Daring.
I thinks it’s totally sexist that EAH’s focus is only on girls. I would prefer lines with girls and also with boys, because it disturbs me that boys are just considered like “accessories” or “decorative elements” but not as real characters. It’s a shame because I really want to see boys with great outfits like the girls… fashion is not just for girls, in my opinion… Ever After High too.
